I’m sure I’ve done hundreds of personal projects, but I’ve never really documented them much. I figure this is a good a time as any, since I am now documenting a lot of what is coming out of my 3D printer.

The format I plan to follow in future posts will be single project updates as they progress. I’m working on a lot of different things simultaneously, many go on hiatus and I lose track of them, hence a very good reason to keep a log.

As the complexity of my projects increase, the required organization and planning increases a lot too, something I’ve been trying to manage in my head for quite a while.

As an engineer, I know all to well the importance of documentation, but as an engineer there is that inner hate for that necessary evil. “I just want to build things! No one’s gonna read this!” which nowadays is followed not long after by “How did this go again? Where did this come from?? Okay one extra screw, no big deal, but eight???”

Documentation saves butts later in the project.
